How to Protect internal combustion engines, compressors, chiller system and DG sets from Corrosion?

ROCCOR NB Corrosion Inhibitor is a  unique formulation with highly concentrated liquid cooling treatment compound, ferrous & Non ferrous corrosion inhibitors, antiscalants, dispersant and buffer solution of non carbonate.

ROCCOR NB is specialized such a way which can be use in high or low temperature closed cooling water systems for the prevention of corrosion and scale formation in internal combustion engines, compressors, chiller system and DG sets. Also Usefull to Protects all metals including cast iron, mild steels and copper. Recommended ppm levels are easily controlled by standered RXSOL test kit Nitrite / Chloride.

The stable protective microfilm prevents corrosion caused by electrolytic action and the alkaline nature of this product prevents acid attack.

The stability of the added polymers are very useful for water treatment processes. Such polymers with low molecular weights cannot only inhibit calcium, magnesium, and silica scale in cooling towers and boilers, but also help corrosion control by dispersing iron oxide.

During Circulation of water mainly controlling of 2 factors required : -

SCALE CONTROL in closed water cooling systems - Diesel and gas engines releasing high temperature due to that water present in jacket cooling system  increases its tendency to deposit scale. To avoid scale formation water softener like Zeolite  gradual buildup of scale in cylinders and cylinder heads. Where condensate is available, it is preferred for closed system cooling water makeup. Where condensate is not available, zeolite softening should be applied to the makeup water.

CORROSION CONTROL An increase in water temperature causes an increase in corrosion. At high temperature  solubility of oxygen in water decreases due to that Corrosion rates increasing inside the system.  This occurs because the lower solubility of oxygen with increasing temperatures in a freely vented system decreases the corrosion rate faster than the rise in temperature increases it. However, in many closed systems, the dissolved oxygen entering the system in the makeup water cannot be freely vented, resulting in the release of oxygen at points of high heat transfer, which may cause severe corrosion. Untreated systems can suffer serious corrosion damage from oxygen pitting, galvanic action, and crevice attack. Closed cooling systems that are shut down periodically are subjected to water temperatures that may vary from ambient to 180°F (82°C) or higher. During shutdown, oxygen can enter the water until its saturation limit is reached. When the system is returned to high-temperature operation, oxygen solubility drops and the released oxygen attacks metal surfaces.

The three most reliable corrosion inhibitors for closed cooling water systems are chromate, molybdate, and nitrite materials. Generally, the chromate or molybdate types have proven to be superior treatments.

ROCCOR NB Corrosion Inhibitor

What is closed cooling system ?

The full closed cooling system is designed to circulate cooling water through the block and exhaust manifold.  water is circulated through water pump to heat exchanger tank and be pumped through many small tubes where it will exchange heat from the water of the circulating system. Then water exits the heat exchanger to go directly into the risers and then exit the boat. The exhaust manifold and riser will be blocked off, so no water will transfer between them. As for the circulating water in the closed cooling system, cool water will enter the engine through the circulating pump and circulate through the engine. The water will heat up in the engine and the warm water will exit at the water outlet on top of the manifold and head to the manifolds. After circulating through the manifolds, the hot water will head to the heat exchanger to exchange the heat it's carrying with the raw water. After the exchange the cool circulating water exits the heat exchanger and returns to circulating pump to begin another loop.

Industrial production and laboratory synthesis

On an industrial scale, sodium thiosulphate is produced chiefly from liquid waste products of sodium sulphide or sulphur dye manufacture. In the laboratory, this salt can be prepared by heating an aqueous solution of sodium sulphite with sulphur.

Principal reactions and applications

Thiosulfate anion characteristically reacts with dilute acids to produce sulfur, sulfur dioxide and water-

1.Na2S2O3 + 2HCl →2NaCl + S + SO2 + H2O

This reaction is known as a "clock reaction", because when the sulfur reaches a certain concentration the solution turns from colourless to a pale yellow. This reaction has been employed to generate colloidal sulfur. When the protonation is conducted at low temperatures, H2S2O3 (thiosulfuric acid) can be obtained. It is a somewhat strong acid with pKas of 0.6 and 1.7 for the first and second dissociation respectively.

Iodometry

In analytical chemistry, the most important use comes from the fact that the thiosulfate anion reacts stoichiometrically with iodine, reducing it to iodide as it is oxidized to tetrathionate:

Photographic processing

The terminal sulfur atom in S2O32− binds to soft metals with high affinity. Thus, silver halides, e.g. AgBr, typical components of photographic emulsions, dissolve upon treatment with aqueous thiosulfate:

2 S2O32− + AgBr →[Ag(S2O3)2]3−+ Br−

In this application to photographic processing, discovered by John Herschel and used for both film and photographic paper processing, the sodium thiosulfate is known as a photographic fixer, and is often referred to as hypo, from the original chemical name, hyposulphite of soda.

Gold extraction

Sodium thiosulfate is one component of an alternative lixiviant to cyanide for extraction of gold. It forms a strong complex with gold(I) ions, [Au(S2O3)2]3−. The advantage of this approach is th

2 S2O32−(aq) + I2(aq) →S4O62−(aq) + 2 I−(aq)

Due to the quantitative nature of this reaction, as well as the fact that Na2S2O3•5H2O has an excellent shelf-life, it is used as a titrant in iodometry. Na2S2O3•5H2O is also a component of iodine clock experiments.

This particular use can be set up to measure the oxygen content of water through a long series of reactions. It is also used in estimating volumetrically the concentrations of certain compounds in solution (hydrogen peroxide, for instance) and in estimating the chlorine content in commercial bleaching powder and water.at thiosulfate is essentially non-toxic and that ore types that are refractory to gold cyanidation (e.g. carbonaceous or Carlin type ores) can be leached by thiosulfate. Some problems with this alternative process include the high consumption of thiosulfate, and the lack of a suitable recovery technique, since [Au(S2O3)2]3− does not adsorb to activated carbon, which is the standard technique used in gold cyanidation to separate the gold complex from the ore slurry.

Packing Size:

Using Procedure:

Process for DE CHLORINATION :::

Dissolve the 500 grams of Sodium Thiosulfate in a large pitcher of lukewarm tap water. Stir until all the crystals are dissolved. Then transfer the solution with a funnel to the gallon jug. Top off the jug to make a full gallon of stock solution.

  • Add two drops of the stock solution per one gallon of the water to be treated.
  • One gallon can treat 37,850 gallons or more. Over-dosage is virtually impossible.
Note:

Analytical chemistry

Sodium thiosulfate is also used in analytical chemistry. It can, when heated with a sample containing aluminum cation, produce a white precipitation:

2 Al3+ + 3 S2O32− + 3 H2O →3 SO2 + 3 S + 2 Al(OH)3

Medical

It is used as an antidote to cyanide poisoning. Thiosulfate acts as a sulfur donor for the conversion of cyanide to thiocyanate (which can then be safely excreted in the urine), catalyzed by the enzyme rhodanase.

It has also been used as treatment of calciphylaxis in hemodialysis patients with end-stage renal disease.[6]

It is used in the management of extravasations during chemotherapy. Sodium thiosulfate prevents alkylation and tissue destruction by providing a substrate for the alkylating agents that have invaded the subcutaneous tissues. The dose may be 2mL of 0.17M (a solution of 4mL 10% sodium thiosulfate and 6mL sterile water for injection). It may be instilled subcutaneously into multiple sites using a small gauge needle. There is limited data on this method with few recommendations.

in foot baths for prophylaxis of ringworm, and as a topical antifungal agent for tinea versicolor.

in measuring the volume of extracellular body fluid and the renal glomerular filtration rate.

Sodium thiosulfate is also used:

As a component in hand warmers and other chemical heating pads that produce heat by exothermic crystallization of a supercooled solution.

In bleach

In pH testing of bleach substances. The universal indicator and any other liquid pH indicators are destroyed by bleach, rendering them useless for testing the pH. If one first adds sodium thiosulfate to such solutions, it will neutralize the color-removing effects of bleach and allow one to test the pH of bleach solutions with liquid indicators. The relevant reaction is akin to the iodine reaction: thiosulfate reduces the hypochlorite (active ingredient in bleach) and in so doing becomes oxidized to sulfate. The complete reaction is:

4 NaClO + Na2S2O3 + 2 NaOH →4 NaCl + 2 Na2SO4 + H2O

To dechlorinate tap water for aquariums or treat effluent from waste water treatments prior to release into rivers. The reduction reaction is analogous to the iodine reduction reaction. Treatment of tap water requires between 0.1 grams and 0.3 grams of pentahydrated (crystalline) sodium thiosulfate per 10 liters of water.

To lower chlorine levels in swimming pools and spas following super chlorination.

To remove iodine stains, e.g. after the explosion of nitrogen triiodide.

Similarly, sodium thiosulfate reacts with bromine to render harmless products. Solutions of sodium thiosulfate are commonly used as a precaution in chemistry laboratories when working with bromine.

In bacteriological water assessment.

In the tanning of leather.

To demonstrate the concept of reaction rate in chemistry classes. The thiosulfate ion can decompose into the sulfite ion and a colloidal suspension of sulfur, which is opaque. The equation for this acid-catalysed reaction is as follows:

S2O32−(aq) →SO32−(aq) + S(s)

To demonstrate the concept of supercooling in physics classes. Melted sodium thiosulfate is very easy to overcool to room temperature and when crystallization is forced, the sudden temperature jump to 48.3 °C can be experienced by touch.

As part of patina recipes for copper alloys.

Often used in pharmaceutical preparations as an anionic surfactant to aid in dispersion.

It can also be used as a very interesting solute in supersaturation experiments.

Cool Water Treat

Alias:

C.W.T. Inhibitor 9-111, COOL WATER TREAT NCL, Coolwater Treat, Cool water treat, Cool Treat, Corrosion Inhibitor for Cooling Water, CoolTreat 25 Ltr

Active Matter:
45-50
Application:

Cool Water Treat  is a highly effective corrosion inhibitor for all common metals in cooling water systems. Testing has shown no detrimental effects on non metallic substances such as seals, glands, packing, hoses, gaskets etc., normally used in these systems. Where most traditional inhibitors react with the metal surface and form oxides that prevent further corrosion, Cool Water Treat  applies a thin and durable layer of protective molecules to the metal surfaces. This technology prevents the continuous build-up of insulating layers on heat transfer surfaces. For new builds, RXSOL  Ships Service recommends cleaning of the water system before commencing service. The system will always contain small amounts of oil and iron oxides, and this can be removed in one operation. If the system is corroded or is more heavily contaminated, degreasing scale is recommended. For systems previously treated with other products, RXSOL  Ships Service recommend to drain and flush the system before refilling with distilled water and Cool Water Treat . The system should be clean and free from scale and corrosion products when starting the treatment. The use of antifreeze is sometimes required if the vessel is to be laid up in cold areas, Cool water treat can be used in conjunction with glycols for frost protection. If used in conjunction with glycols, It is recommended to increase the product concentration to 8%.*

Packing Size:
25.00 Ltr.
Using Procedure:

Cool Water Treat should be dosed to a suitable point in the system. If the expansion tank is used, adequate circulation must be assured.

Dosing and Control

Initial dosage for an untreated system is 60 litres of Cool Water Treat Cool water Treat Corrosion Inhibitor / ton of untreated distilled water (6%). This will provide sufficient protection of the system for a period of two to five years under normal conditions. 6% Cool water Treat Corrosion Inhibitor should also be dosed in all make up water added to the system to compensate for lost coolant. The engine manufacturer's recommendations for water quality should always be complied with. Chloride levels should always be as low as possible. Most engine manufacturers recommend a maximum of 50 ppm chlorides. For this reason, RXSOL Service recommends the use of distilled water as make-up.

Note:
  • Liquid product, easy to use
  • Environmentally friendly, fully organic product, low toxicity
  • Effective against cavitation and erosion. Superior heat transfer properties
  • Compatible with hoses, gaskets and seals

Hydrogen Peroxide 6% Solution

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is the only germicidal agent composed only of water and oxygen. Like ozone, it kills disease organisms by oxidation! For this reason, Hydrogen peroxide is considered the world’s safest all natural effective sanitizer.

Alias:

Hydrogen Peroxide, Mild Disinfectant and cleaning agent

Active Matter:
6%
Application:

Application : Adults the elderly and children : Apply the solution directly with a PAD of cotton wool required.

Packing Size:
500.00 Bottle
Using Procedure:

Active Ingredient : Hydrogen Peroxide 6%

Note:

1. Cuts and infections

Soak any infections or cuts in 3% for five to ten minutes several times a day. Even gangrene that would not heal with any medicine has been healed by soaking in Hydrogen peroxide. Put half a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus or other skin infections.

2. Rejuvenating Detoxifying Bath

Use about 2 quarts 3% Hydrogen peroxide to a tub of warm water. Soak at least 1/2 hour, adding hot water as needed to maintain a comfortable water temperature.

3. Foot Fungus

To cure a foot fungus, simply spray a 50/50 mixture of Hydrogen peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.

4. Bird Mites Infections

Patients infected by tiny mites report that hydrogen peroxide effectively kills the mites on their skins. They spray it on their skin a couple of times (with a few minutes in between the applications) with amazing results.

5. Sinus Infections

A tablespoon of 3% Hydrogen peroxide added to 1 cup of non-chlorinated water can be used as a nasal spray. Depending on the degree of sinus involvement, one will have to adjust the amount of peroxide used.

6. Wound Care

3% H2O2 is used medically for cleaning wounds, removing dead tissue, and as an oral debriding agent. Peroxide stops slow (small vessel) wound bleeding/oozing, as well.

Some sources recommend soaking wounds for five to ten minutes several times a day. However, washing and rinsing action is sufficient. You shouldn’t leave the solution on open tissue for extended periods of time as, like many oxidative antiseptics, Hydrogen peroxide causes mild damage to tissue in open wounds. Therefore it is important to use with caution.

Personal Care

7. Mouthwash

Many people don’t realize that hydrogen peroxide makes a very effective and inexpensive mouthwash. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. You will not have canker sores and your teeth will be whiter. Use 3% H2O2 – add a dash of liquid chlorophyll for flavoring if desired.

8. Toothpaste

Use baking soda and add enough 3% H202 to make a paste.

9. Toothbrush

Or, just dip your brush in 3% H202 and brush. Soak your toothbrush in Hydrogen peroxide to keep them free of germs.

10. Tooth Ache

Hydrogen peroxide is not a pain killer; however, as an anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-fungal agent, it is effective at treating the pathogen that is causing the infection. The following is from my own personal experience: My dentist wanted to give me a root canal some time ago as one tooth was inflamed and, in her opinion, would die. I felt some discomfort but told her that I would give it chance to heal. I rinsed with hydrogen peroxide (several times a day) as well ascoconut oil (once a day). The discomfort went away and I have had no further problems with the tooth.

If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% Hydrogen peroxide into your mouth and hold it for 10 minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

11. Tooth Whitening

Having used 3% Hydrogen peroxide as a mouth wash for sometime ago, I am thrilled to note that my teeth have been beautifully and effortlessly whitened. I used to pay so much for professional whitening, those silly strips and uncomfortable trays. Live and learn.

12. Douche

Add 2 capfuls of 3% Hydrogen peroxide in warm distilled water once to twice a week to remove even chronic yeast infections.

13. Colonic or Enema

For a colonic, add 1 cup (8 ozs.) 3% H202 to 5 gallons warm water. (Do not exceed this amount) For an enema, add 1 tablespoon of 3% H202 to a quart of warm distilled water.

14. Hair Lightening

Peroxide is a bleaching agent and is used for lightened hair. Dilute 3% Hydrogen peroxide with water (50 / 50) and spray the solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages, but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually so it’s not a drastic change.

15. Contact Lenses

Hydrogen peroxide is used as a disinfectant in CIBA Vision’s Clear Care no rub contact lens cleaning solution, due to its ability to break down the proteins that build up on the lense from the eye’s immune response, resulting in increased comfort for those with sensitive eyes.

Sanitizing / Disinfectant / Cleaning

16. In the Dishwasher

To disinfect your dishwasher, add 2 oz. of 3% Hydrogen peroxide to your regular washing formula.

17. Kitchen/Household surfaces

Clean your counters and table tops with hydrogen peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.

Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of 3% Hydrogen peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour or spray hydrogen peroxide (and then vinegar) on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.

Keep a spray bottle of 3% (straight) to disinfect the interior of the refrigerator and kids’ school lunch boxes. You can also use hydrogen peroxide to clean glass and mirrors with no smearing. Use it in the bathroom to sanitize the counters, toilets, floors, etc.

Directions: It is best to use two spray bottles rather than mixing the solutions together. Put straight vinegar in one and straight Hydrogen peroxide in the other spray bottle. When you want to sanitize a surface (cutting board, counters, sink, cages, toys, toilets, floors, etc.) spray one mixture on the surface, then the other. When they mix, for a brief time the chemical action of the two make a very powerful sanitizer. You can rinse off the surface afterwards. This applies for kitchen surfaces as well as vegetable and food decontamination.

18. Humidifiers/Steamers

To clear the air, use 1 pint 3% hydrogen peroxide to 1 gallon of water in a humidifier or steamer.

19. Washing/Laundry

You can also add a cup of hydrogen peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.

Peroxide is a perfect alternate solution to keep those clothes white. Also, when chlorinating clothes, they tend to wear out faster – peroxide won’t do that.

20. Laundry / Stain Removing

3% Hydrogen peroxide is an effective stain remove if it is used fairly soon after a spill – although blood stains as old as 2 days have been successfully lifted with Hydrogen Peroxide. If a little peroxide is poured onto the stain it will bubble up in the area of the blood, due to a reaction with catalase. After a few minutes the excess liquid can be wiped up with a cloth or paper towel and the stain will be gone.

3% H2O2 must be applied to clothing before blood stains can be accidentally “set” with heated water. Cold water and soap are then used to remove the peroxide treated blood.

Please note: Hydrogen peroxide will bleach or discolor many fabrics.

Food Preparation

21. Food preparation/decontamination

Combination of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide make a cheap, effective and non-toxic disinfectant agent and is said to be more effective at killing pathogens than bleach. As it is non-toxic, you can use it to cleanse cooking and food preparation areas (as well as fruits and vegetables – see #24). In tests run at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, pairing Vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide mists, kills virtually all Salmonella, Shigella, or E. coli bacteria on heavily contaminated food and surfaces.

22. Vegetable Soak

Use as a vegetable wash or soak to kill bacteria and neutralize chemicals. Add 1/4 cup 3% H2O2 to a full sink of cold water. Soak light skinned (light lettuce) 20 minutes, thicker skinned (like cucumbers) 30 minutes. Drain, dry and refrigerate. Prolongs freshness.

If time is a problem, spray vegetables (and fruits) with a solution of 3%. Let stand for a few minutes, rinse and dry.

23. Meat Sanitizing

You can also use it to rinse off your meat before cooking.

24. Leftover tossed salad

To help keep leftover salads, spray with a solution of 1/2 cup water and 1 Tbsp. 5%. Drain, cover and refrigerate.

25. Marinade

Place meat, fish or poultry in a casserole (avoid using aluminium pans). Cover with a dilute solution of equal parts of water and 3% H202. Place loosely covered in refrigerator for 1/2 hour. Rinse and cook.

26. Sprouting Seeds

Add 1 ounce 3% Hydrogen peroxide to 1 pint of water and soak the seeds overnight. Add the same amount of hydrogen peroxide each time you rinse the seeds.

6% Sodium Hypochlorite Solution. Disinfectant for use in drinking water. Use one drop of solution per 10 ltrs of drinking water, 600 ml of solution per 36 tons of drinking water.

General formulation to calculate  how much bleach is needed to add to a tank or a pipeline to disinfect it to a given chlorine residual using a given disinfectant. Usually someone wants to know how to meet an AWWA Standard (like C651-92, Disinfection of Water Mains). The equation below should be used to estimate the amount of sodium / Calcium hypochlorite (Chlorine Water is 6.00% sodium hypochlorite) needed to disinfect a given quantity of water to a desired chlorine concentration.

                                                                        req'd residual in ppm
  Volume of hypo  =  volume of water  x  (  ----------------------------- )
                                                                           1,000,000 x hypo %

For example , say you had installed a new 5,000 gallon tank and wanted to make sure that you had at least a 100 ppm solution of chlorine in it.

How much 6.00% Hypochlorite would you need to add  ?

  • (5,000 gal x 100 ppm) / (1,000,000 x .06) = 8.33 gallons

How much 12% Hypochlorite solution would you need ?

  • (5,000 gal x 100 ppm) / (1,000,000 x .12) = 4.17 gallons

If you use calcium hypochlorite (the white, powder version of chlorine, like HTH pool cleaner), the equation becomes:

                                                                                                              req'd residual in PPM
Wgt. of Calcium Hypo (lbs)= gal of water x 8.33 lb / gal m x   ( ----------------------------- )
                                                                                                               1,000,000 x hypo %

  • This is simply the previous equation multiplied by the conversion factor of 8.33 pounds per gallon of water.

Let's assume that we still need to disinfect 5,000 gallons at 100 ppm.

How many pounds of 65% calcium hypochlorite (HTH pool cleaner) are needed?

  • (8.33 lbs/ gal. x 5,000 gal x 100 ppm) / (1,000,000 x .65) = 6.4 pounds
Note:

Spraying - Following rough washing to a good Water White or better, apply dilute Bleach to 1 - 3% strength.  First wet the tank surface (spray with DI water), then spray all over with Bleach, wait 30 minute (but do not allow to dry) and then rinse very well with DI water, including the tank top towards the sump.  To ensure that you have covered all areas properly, this process should be carried out at least twice with good DI water.

Injection -no.

Re-circulation - Following rough washing  to a good Water White standard or better, apply dilute Bleach to 1-3% strength.  Mix sufficient Bleach with fresh water in the tank and heat this mixture to 40 - 500C, circulate through the drop line if fitted and than circulate through butterworth machine for 3 hours.  After re-circulation immediately warm butterworth to (500 C) the tank for 3 hours at maximum pressure, increase the water temperature to 80-850 C after 45 minutes.  Check (by smell) that there is no Bleach remaining, then fresh water rinse and dry.

** When there are a number of tanks requiring re-circulation, it may be significantly more efficient to make up a large batch or number of batches that can be transferred on between  tanks as required.

* Use a strainer at the pump stack when circulating any solution.
Tank Lining - Stainless / Zinc / Epoxy / Phenolic (Extreme care must be taken if product other than bleach substitute is to be used in any coated space).

**These products become more aggressive with temperature increase, and should not be allowed to dry on tank walls or stored in cargo tanks as cleaning solution or slops.

We bring high-grade Calcium Chloride from reliable and authentic sources of the market. The powder is an ionic compound prepared by chemical reaction of chlorine and calcium. Moreover, it is a deliquescent compound which can dissolve in water very well. Formulated using high grade base material, it is widely used in several processes and operations related to industrial applications.

Calcium Chloride aggressively absorbs moisture from the air, first causing a swelling of the crystals. If the air is humid enough and the temperature is high enough, the crystals melt and liquid saline solution brine) is formed.

It works well over a temperature range from freezing up to 100C or more. At low temperature the salt does not absorb moisture under dry conditions. In practical terms calcium chloride desiccants are effective at Relative Humidity above 20-30%, but are relatively more effective under moist conditions.

Calcium chloride  also can be used to accelerate strength development in mass concrete during winter. RX MARINE INTERNATIONAL is largest stockist and exporter of Calcium Chloride from India and Middle East.
