Using Procedure: 

Initial dosage for an untreated system is 9 litres of RXSOL CIDC / 1000 litres of untreated distilled water. This will bring the treatment up to the minimum level of 1000 ppm nitrite. For best result and prolonged engine life add RXSOL CIDC every 500 -6500 km. or 250 to 300 hours of running time or every 2 month interval.

Note: 

In cases where systems are contaminated with oil and/or scale, they should be cleaned before starting to apply RXSOL CIDC.There are suitable RX BRAND products to carry out the cleaning. Degreasing should be carried out using RXSOL-20-2002-025 and descaling by using RXSOL 1008.

Application: 

During the operation, the fins & tubes of the main engine air cooler which become fouled with oil, grease, dust and carbonaceous deposit, which will affect cooler efficiency and damage the system.

RXSOL-54-1048-020 ( www.rxmarine.com/safe-acid-descalex-liquid-20-ltr ) is a powerful dissolving agent of calcium carbonate. Therefore, it is better to use RXSOL-54-1048-020  to do circulating cleaning at an early stage before the scales build up and block the tube, or regular cleaning is recommended as well. It is impossible to do a circulating cleaning when the tube is completely blocked.

Using Procedure: 

Dirt attached on air-side fins of air coolers are a mix of carbonaceous particles such as soot and oil mist of unburned fuel components. 
Carbonaceous particles can be removed by Alkaline Cleaners Part No. RXSOL-16-1040-025 ( www.rxmarine.com/alkaline-air-cooler-cleaner ) and oil mist can be removed by oil based cleaners. However, it is very difficult to remove the mix of these substances. If you use an alkaline cleaner, oil will repel the water based alkaline cleaner; if you use oil based cleaner, carbonaceous particles will get in the way and stop oil from being removed.

This cleaners designed to remove both carbonaceous and oil simultaneously. An effective cleaning method is to immerse one side to remove the loose stains first, and then immerse the other side. This method can efficiently remove dirt and prevent swollen dirt peeled from fins from blocking the spaces between fins.

White scales attached on the seawater side of air coolers of many vessels. We found that in most cases, the main component of the scales is calcium carbonate and there is also a small amount of calcium sulfate. Therefore in most cases, if you dissolve the calcium carbonate the scales will be removed.

However, if the amount of scales is large enough to block the tube, the cylindrical scale will usually have calcium carbonate on the outside (the side that is in contact with tube) and calcium sulfate in the center (part that seawater passes through). Calcium sulfate is easier to be formed when the temperature goes higher.

When the amount of scales increases, the contact area of scale and cleaner is very small and a longer time of dissolution is required. Calcium sulfate cannot be dissolved by an acid cleaner.

How to Clean Air Cooler?

HOW to TEST purity of Sodium Sulfite?

PURITY TESTS
Reagents: Hydrochloric acid, hydrazinium sulfate, standard selenium solution (100µg Se/ml)

Procedure

Weigh 2.0 ± 0.1 g of sample and transfer to a 50-ml beaker. Add 10 ml water, 5 ml hydrochloric acid and boil to remove SO2.
Into a second beaker, weigh 1.0 ± 0.1 g of sample, add 0.05 ml standard selenium solution and proceed as above.
To each beaker add 2 g hydrazinium sulfate and warm to dissolve. Let stand for 5 min. Dilute the contents of each beaker to 50 ml in a Nessler tube and compare the colour of the two solutions. The sample should be less pink than the sample with the added standard.

METHOD OF ASSAY

Weigh 0.2 g of the sample to the nearest mg, add to 50.0 ml of 0.1 N iodine in a glass-stoppered flask, and stopper the flask. Allow to stand for 5 min, add 1 ml of hydrochloric acid, and titrate the excess iodine with 0.1 N sodium thiosulfate, adding starch TS as the indicator. Each ml of 0.1 N iodine is equivalent to 4.753 mg of Na2S2O5.

Using Procedure: 

For sea water cooling systems

Dose 150 – 500 ML of  RXSOL-40-4003-025   for every 100 tons of sea water flowing through the system per hour. The treatment should be applied daily when the vessel is on coastal waters. Normally  the treatment is not required when sailing deep sea .

For  ballast tanks
Dose 1 litre of RXSOL-40-4003-025 per 10 tons of water prior to ballasting, followed by a monthly dose of 2 litres per 100 tons.

Dechlorination 

When RO or NF membrane is used in the RO/NF process, the feed must be dechlorinated to prevent oxidation of the membrane. RO membranes have some chlorine tolerance before noticeable loss of salt rejection is observed. The first sign of chlorine attack on RO/NF membrane is loss of membrane flux followed by an increase in membrane flux and salt passage. Eventual degradation may occur after approximately 200–1,000 hours of exposure to 1 mg/L of free chlorine (200–1,000 ppm-h tolerance). The rate of chlorine attack depends on various feed water characteristics. Under alkaline pH conditions, chlorine attack is faster than at neutral or acidic pH. An acidic pH is preferred for better biocidal effect during chlorination. Chlorine attack is also faster at higher temperatures and higher concentrations of heavy metals (e.g., iron), that can catalyze membrane degradation. Since oxidation damage is not covered under warranty, Technical person always recommends removing residual free chlorine by pretreatment prior to exposure of the feed water to the membrane. Other oxidizing agents such as chlorine dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, ozone, and permanganate are capable of damaging RO/NF membranes also if not used properly. 

Residual free chlorine can be reduced to harmless chlorides by activated carbon or chemical reducing agents. An activated carbon bed is very effective in the dechlorination of RO feed water according to following reaction: 

C+2Cl2 +2H2O→4HCl+CO2 

Sodium metabisulfite (SMBS) is commonly used for removal of free chlorine and as a biostatic. Other chemical reducing agents exist (e.g., sulfur dioxide), but they are not as cost-effective as SMBS. 

When dissolved in water, sodium bisulfite (SBS) is formed from SMBS: Na2S2O5 + H2O → 2 NaHSO3 

SBS then reduces hypochlorous acid according to: 2NaHSO3 + 2HOCl → H2SO4 + 2HCl + Na2SO4 

In theory, 1.34 mg of sodium metabisulfite will remove 1.0 mg of free chlorine. In practice, however, 3.0 mg of sodium metabisulfite is normally used to remove 1.0 mg of chlorine. 

 

The SMBS should be of food-grade quality and free of impurities. SMBS should not be cobalt-activated. Solid sodium metabisulfite has a typical shelf life of 4–6 months under cool, dry storage conditions. In aqueous solutions, however, sodium bisulfite can oxidize readily when exposed to air. A typical solution life can vary with concentration as follows:

Although the dechlorination itself is rapid, good mixing is required to ensure completion. Static mixers are recommended. The recommended injection point is downstream of the cartridge filters in order to protect the filters by chlorine. In this case, the SMBS solution should be filtered through a separate cartridge before being injected into the RO feed. Dechlorinated water must not be stored in tanks. 

When RO/NF membranes are fouled with heavy metals such as Co and Cu, residual SBS (up to 30 ppm) partially converts to oxidants under the presence of excessive oxygen. When there is a heavy potential for metal fouling, SBS dosing amount control must be optimized and oxidation conditions of the concentrate must be monitored by an oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) meter. 

The absence of chlorine should be monitored using an oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) electrode downstream of the mixing line. 175 - 200 mV threshold readings of the ORP have been typically applied. The electrode signal shuts down the high pressure pump when chlorine is detected.

     Released sulfur dioxide SO2 however makes the water a strong Reducing Agent.

3> On heating it releases sulfur dioxide, leaving sodium oxide behind.

Using Procedure: 

Di Chlor or Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate (SDIC) widely applied for the sterilization of swimming pool and drinking water, or fighting against infectious diseases, or act as disinfectant in raising silkworm, livestock, poultry and fish. Other applications of Di Chlor  are found in wool shrinkage, textile bleaching, and industrial circulating water cleaning. Di Chlor  is normally supplied in powder and granular, tablets are also available on request. Stabilised chlorine granular (dichlor) are used very widely to chlorinate swimming pool water. The product has high efficiency and constant performance and has no harm to human beings.

Note: 

The amount of product to be used or dispensed depends upon the specific application and the volume of water being treated. Ref our telcon, please find attached Hold photos after discharging of Australian Coal and cleaning (without applying any chemicals) in oct 2018 . Then vsl loaded Indonesian Coal and will be discharging same in abt a week. Next voyage is getting fixed to load Urea from Saudi. Basis the photos, which chemical would you suggest to be used. We were thinking of RXSOL PCS along with Alkaatuff. Fyi, Owners have supplied 1200 Ltrs of Alkaatuff HF last month.

In image we can observe that BOTTOM line of hold is rusted, And your plan to load CLEAN CARGO like urea which is ammonia-ted product can result further heavy rusting. So here our suggestion is to go with PCS with Alkaatuff HF. And after cleaning hold rust can be treated with RUST CONVERTOR by the ratio of 1:100 Ltr with water, this will change free iron rust content to orginal metal colour. ( For treatment of rust Each Hold  maximum 50 Ltr RUST CONVERTOR REQUIRED ) and Finally HOLD can be treat with SLIP barrier Polymer COAT polymer, with dilution ration of 1:100 Ltr with Water.
