The Importance High-Pressure Cleaning

The job of high-pressure cleaning can be done easier & quicker by simply using Aqua Clean Tuff incorrect dosages. Using a high-pressure cleaner alone, without any CLEANER, will not  achieve  optimal cleaning results High-pressure cleaning primarily refers to cleaning of Hard  surfaces, such  as Decks, Tanks, Engine-rooms, etc. and in the majority of cases the cleaning is done according to the so-called two-step method:

Step 1:  Spraying the  Aqua Clean Tuff over the area to be cleaned.
Step 2:   Washing down the area using a high-pressure water jet.

After the Aqua Clean Tuffv has been sprayed on the surface and before the wash down begins, the chemicals penetrate & thoroughly moistens dirt & other grime. During wash down, the Aqua Clean Tuff thoroughly dissolves the particles of dirt, even oil and fat, in the water spray and thus achieves optimal cleaning results.In addition to being more effective, the use of Aqua Clean Tuff substantially reduces the time required for the Cleaning operation, as well as preventing dirt from reforming on the surface. The use of Aqua Clean Tuff in correct dosages is half the job done.

General Cleaning :- Aqua Clean Tuff can be used for all types of cleaning &  degreasing & may  be applied by  Brush, Hand spray, high and low-pressure washing machines etc. Time necessary for cleaning depends on the nature and thickness of the deposits. 20-30 min. will suffice for   most applications. Hardened, carbonised or aged deposits may require up to 4 hours. If  the cleaning solution is not heavily contaminated, it may be re-used at a later stage. If allowed to cool, the de-gassing procedure must be repeated. Depending on the degree of contamination Aqua Clean Tuff CLEANER should be mixed with warm water at a rate of 50-200 ml   per 10 litres. i.e. 1 cup of Aqua Clean Tuff to a bucket of water. The Aqua Clean Tuff solution can be applied  simply by mops, brushes or rags, or by dipping the soiled articles into  the Aqua Clean Tuff solution. After cleaning, rinse off with cold or warm water. Due to high foaming properties, Aqua Clean Tuff is not recommended for washing machines.

Preparation

Preparing Cargo Holds for loading Grain depends on the previous cargo.

1. Cargo Holds must be thoroughly cleaned and dry and trace of previous cargo in frames, beams, girders, and other structure.

2. There should not be any loose rust and or paint scale anywhere in the Cargo Holds, Bulkheads, upper and lower hopper spaces, underneath of Hatch Covers and tank top.

3. There should not be traces of live & dead insect & weevils.

4. Bilge covers should be cleaned of any cargo residues and have enough drain holes. Bilge cover needs to be grain tight but not watertight.

5. Bilge well should be cleaned of previous cargo dray and odour free.

6. Bilge suction should be operational at all the times. 

 

Removal of cargo residue:

Air Blow from top using high pressure air to reach all accessible corners. Cargo to be swept, scrapped & collected in a drum. Attention to be given

Tank top should be free of loose rust and cargo residue

Hold bilges must be cleaned thoroughly to remove all residue, rust particles and cargo stains etc.

The filter (Rose Box) must be cleaned thoroughly

The bilge well sections shall be washed with continuous running of sea water to remove all odour and later rinsed with fresh water

1st Step Cleaning of extra and excess loose particle::: 
Before applying  Aqua Clean Tuff on hold surface, Makes sure extra loose cargo particle should be removed manually or Air blown method. Then cleaning procedure can be followed either by high foam machine or Manual. 
2nd step is for Mixing and dilution of ALKAATuff High Foam CLEANER:::
If cleaning step is with HP machine ( High Pressure ), Then mix concentrated ALKAATUFF high foam with fresh water, it can be diluted 1 Ltrs Aqua Clean Tuff CLEANER with 4 to 5 Ltrs Fresh water.  

If cleaning step followed by hand spray, Then apply Aqua Clean Tuff neat on the surface. Approx  1 ltr covers 10 to 12 square meter. 

3rd Step final procedure::: 

Leave for about 30 – 45 minutes. The surface remains wet. Wash down with hot water at around 80 - 90 degree. Rinsing procedure can be repeated 1 to 3 times if required for Cargo Tank and Cargo Hold Cleaning.

Procedure for Use :-

  • RXSOL-38-1011-025 is highly concentrate
  • Dilute in water (always use a plastic jar and RXSOL-38-1011-025 should be added to  water  never add water to (RXSOL-38-1011-025.)
  • The surface should be sound clean and free of oil, grease, dirt etc.
  • Diluted materials apply on the rusted area for 15 to 20 minutes then wash off with water repeat if necessary.
    (For stubborn rusted stains.)

NOTE:-
For steel surfaces; remove oil, grease and old paint. Wet down entire surface with neat Super Dilac Acidic low foaming Detergent Metal Clean Bright- Rx and allow to dry. The second wash may be necessary. The surface should have a grey/white appearance when the Super Dilac Acidic low foaming Detergent Metal Clean Bright- Rx is dry. Steel surfaces will have a resistance to rust and will render a good base for paint.For removal of rust stains on painted surfaces and wood, Super Dilac Acidic low foaming Detergent Metal Clean Bright Rx should be applied at full concentration for heavy stains, or diluted to 20-50% for light stains. Allow to soak for 15 to 30 minutes and wash off with water. A second application may be necessary to remove the stubborn stains.

Spraying Direction:-
Using an empty/clean 210-litre drum, fill with 190 litres of fresh water and add 20 litres of Super Dilac Acidic low foaming Detergent Metal Clean Bright   This makes a 10% solution, which can be sprayed onto areas in coated tanks where rust stains are showing and over actual rusted areas.  Once spraying is completed, wait 20-30 minutes and fresh water rinses with lots of water if possible use Butterworth machines for a more efficient result.  This method can be used in stainless tanks to “freshen up” the look of the stainless materials.  Make sure to rinse the tank very well, as residual detergent within the Metal Clean Bright will show up in a Wall Wash.

Injection – Not suitable.

Re-circulation:
When hand spraying is inadequate (too much area to cover), prepare a 2% - 5% solution in the tank using fresh water, heat solution to 50o C, then circulate the solution through Butterworth machines for 3 x 45 minutes drops minimum.  When using fixed machine recirculate for a minimum of 3 cycles.  Rinse out the tank using hot seawater 85o C for 2 hours making sure that there is no form remaining in the water at the pump stack drain cock.  After the hot wash, the tank must be rinsed with fresh water and dried.

* If the mixture is allowed to overheat, it will soften epoxy/phenolic coating.
* Use a strainer at the pump stack when circulating any solution.

In general terms and thumb rule for Metals Britte is MORE RUST required more Super Dilac Acidic low foaming Detergent Metals Britte. Chemically Rust { iron oxide (FeO) } is soluble in pH values below 4.0, . Thus, the oxide (oxygen) dissolves as it is formed instead of depositing on the metal's surface. So it is clear more rust required more Metal clean Britte to get dissolve. In practical if the area is fully rusted corroded then direct Metal Clean Britte can be used to dissolve rust particles, while in light contaminated part Metals Clean Britte can be diluted in between 20 to 70% .

 

2nd factor is the time which is directly affecting the cleaning result. If base metal is aluminium then use Super Dilac Acidic low foaming Detergent Metals Clean Britte concentration 10 to 30% for not more then 5 Minutes. For removal of rust stains on painted or iron surfaces, use 10-30%  of Metals Clean Britte soultion for 15-20 minutes. And for heavily rusted and corroded or soiled surfaces and tarnish on copper and brass, use a solution of 20-50%, for 15-40 minutes.

 

The 3rd important point always be noted, After cleaning of rust from Metals clean Britte all area should be fully rinsed and clean properly with fresh water. And for best long time result to keep rust free surface, Surface can be chemically neutralized with RXSOL-41-8896-025 ( dilution ration 1 Ltr RXSOL-41-8896-025 with 10 Ltr water ). The scientific reason behind that is  As With the Rust oxide gone with Metals Clean Britte, the metal surface is in direct contact with the acidic solution, and the corrosion reaction proceeds at a greater rate than it does at higher pH values. Using Procedure: 

RXSOL-11-1008-025  is mixed with fresh water 3 to 20 percent depending on deposition of scaling.

The most effective method is circulation for large systems or components like boilers, evaporators, condensers, heat exchangers and generally closed systems that have the capability to circulate at a temperature of approximately 40-60°C, for 6-12 hours and solutions of 10-40% of RXSOL-11-1008-025 in water. Keep in mind that the strength of the solution is analogous to the degree of deposition of scale .
In case of small components , the soak method in an immersion bath can be used.

If the equipment to be cleaned is contaminated by oil, grease, sludge or carbonized oil, then first of all clean the system with degreaser  RXSOL-10-1005.

RXSOL-11-1008-025 should be mixed with fresh water to form a solution of 5-30%, depending on the extent of scaling.

PRECAUTION :::it is essential to thoroughly rinse all metal surfaces at least once with a 0.5% solution of  RXSOL-20-2005  (  www.rxmarine.com/alkaleen-liquid-heavy-duty-25-ltr  ) in fresh water. This solution should be circulated for 2-4 hours or until an acceptable pH value is obtained. This will neutralize any remaining acidity & passivate steel surfaces.

RXSOL-11-1008--DC should not be used on Aluminium, Zinc, Tin, or any Galvanized Surfaces for which a special grade cleaner should be used. The Descalant Solution Should Be Prepared About 20% In Excess of The System Hold Up Volume. Re-Circulate The Solution Using An Acid Compatible Pump. After Descaling Is Completed, Flush Out The Solution And Rinse Once With Plain Water. Neutralize The System With 2% W/W RXSOL RXSOL-20-2004-025 In Water And Recirculate For An Hour. Flush Out The Solution And Return System To Normal Service.

Sodium Benzoate Food Grade Enhances flavour / taste of Acidic Food, But always remeber never use Sodium Benzoate Food Grade with Vitamin C( Ascorbic Acid )  as it forms benzene which is a carcinogen.

Sodium benzoate is most suitable for use as an antimicrobial agent in foods and beverages which naturally are in the pH range below 4.5, or can be brought into the range by addition of a water soluble acidulant. Sodium benzoate is not recommended as a preservative at pH ranges higher than 4.5.

Sodium Benzoate, NF/FCC is widely used in carbonated and still beverages, syrups, cider, salted margarine, olives, sauces, relishes, jellies, jams, preserves, pastry and pie fillings, low fat salad dressing, fruit salads, prepared salads, and in storage of vegetables. Some generalized applications are described in the following examples. Keep in mind that both federal and state regulations may apply to specific applications. These regulations should be reviewed and verified as applicable or non-applicable for each specific use application.
 
BEVERAGES:
Sodium benzoate is the standard preservative used in carbonated beverages. Typically 0.03 to 0.08% is used for the finished products. Sodium benzoate is often used to preserve the flavor syrup prior to the addition of the beverage acidulant. Non-carbonated beverages normally require somewhat higher concentrations of 0.05 to 0.1% sodium benzoate in the finished products.

CIDER:
The shelf life of non-pasteurized cider can be greatly extended by using sodium benzoate and it should be added as soon as the juice is pressed. A slight tang, which many tasters apparently prefer, may be imparted to the cider by concentrations of sodium benzoate as low as 0.04%.
 
MARGARINE:
Margarine is regulated by standards of identity described in 21 CFR 166.110. Sodium benzoate is allowed as a preservative up to 0.1%. Special attention to the preservation may be required for low salt or salt free margarine, as salt may exhibit a synergistic effect with sodium benzoate.

SYRUPS:
Concentrated sugar solutions are somewhat resistant to fermentation under ideal conditions but may be subject to quality deterioration in non-ideal circumstances. Sodium benzoate may be used to inhibit microbial growth in these syrups at levels of about 0.1% at pH values below 4.5. In chocolate syrups and other fountain syrups with pH values above 4.5, sodium benzoate may be used in conjunction with other preservatives that are more effective in that pH range.
FRUITS, FRUIT JUICES, AND FRUIT SALADS: Typically sodium benzoate will be used at levels of 0.05 to 0.1% to preserve these products. Maraschino cherries are preserved with 0.05 to 0.1% sodium benzoate. The shelf life of chilled citrus salads is materially improved by the use of 0.03 to 0.08% sodium benzoate in the cover syrup.

ORANGE JUICE PRODUCTS:
Orange juice products are regulated by standards of identity of “Orange Juice with Preservative” described in 21 CFR §146.152 and "Concentrated Orange Juice with Preservative" 

FRUIT BUTTERS, JELLIES, PRESERVES, AND RELATED PROUDCTS: Fruit butters, jellies, preserves, and related products are regulated. According to that regulatory description, GRAS preservatives such as sodium benzoate are permitted as optional ingredients in a concentration reasonably required for preservation. Artificially sweetened fruit jelly is and artificially sweetened fruit preserves and jams to contain sodium benzoate up to a level not to exceed 0.1%, by weight, of the finished food.

SALAD DRESSINGS:
Non standardized salad dressings which have a relatively low fat content may be preserved by the use of sodium benzoate at a use level of 0.1%, if the product is below a pH of 4.5.

PREPARED SALADS:
Prepared salads are generally kept under refrigeration but additional protection against mold and yeast growth may be gained by using 0.1% sodium benzoate. The pH of these products should be below 4.5 for the preservative to be effective. The preservative should be added with the salad dressing or with the gelatin solution.

NON-STANDARDIZED SAUCES AND CONDIMENTS:
Many non-standardized sauces and condiments that have a pH range below 4.5 may be effectively preserved with sodium benzoate at 0.05 to 0.1%.PICKLES AND PICKLE PRODUCTS: Yeast and mold contamination and scum formation in pickles and pickle products may be controlled with up to 0.1% sodium benzoate. The sodium benzoate may be added with the sweet juice to be used on the pickles, which may make up about one-third of the total bulk content. Consequently, 0.3% sodium benzoate could be added to the sweet juice to attain not more than 0.1% sodium benzoate in the entire finished product.

PHARMACEUTICAL, TOILETRY, AND COSMETICS APPLICATIONS:
Sodium benzoate, NF/FCC is used extensively in pharmaceutical preparations, toiletries, and cosmetics. Sodium benzoate is a well-known and widely used preservative for pharmaceutical products such as syrups, flavored vehicles, and multiple dose containers for liquid preparations. The pH is an important factor and use levels may vary.In the manufacture of compressed tablets that will give clear solutions, a level of 2 to 4% sodium benzoate powder in the granulation has been described as an efficient lubricant and provides rapid disintegration times. Sodium benzoate has a solubilizing effect of certain drugs, which is useful, for instance, in caffeine preparations or certain anesthetic compositions. Sodium benzoate is also used as a diagnostic acid for liver function.Sodium benzoate is a safe, economical preservative in certain toiletries preparations such as creams, lotions, gum solutions, and toothpaste. The advantages of sodium benzoate in these applications are that it is colorless, odorless, readily soluble, and generally is compatible other ingredients. Sodium benzoate has been generally reported to be used at concentrations below 3%. The preservative is also most efficient at lower pH values. The inhibitory level of sodium benzoate in emulsions increases with oil content. Sodium benzoate has found antimicrobial applications in mouthwashes, dermatological creams and ointments, and deodorants.

OTHER USES:
Sodium benzoate has been used as a preservative for various juice extracts during processing steps and in the finished product. One such application is in the use of sodium benzoate as a preservative for yucca juice extract, which is a natural surfactant used in dairy waste control.
Many other uses of sodium benzoate, NF/FCC are possible in these industries whenever there is an application for a preservative and the parameters of the media are suitable or may be made suitable for sodium benzoate.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS:
CORROSION INHIBITION:
Sodium benzoate has found considerable application as a corrosion inhibitor in low concentrations. Corrosion inhibition has been reported for steel, zinc, copper, copper alloys, soldered joints, aluminum, and aluminum alloys. As a liquid phase inhibitor, low concentrations of sodium benzoate have been reportedly been used for corrosion control at a pH as low as 5.5, but the most effective inhibition appears to be in the pH range of 6 to 12. The effectiveness of the corrosion inhibition has been reported to be positively affected by small concentrations of Sodium Nitrite and negatively affected by concentrations as low as 0.1% of Sodium Chloride and / or Sodium Sulfate.
A critical minimum pH for inhibition with respect to the sodium benzoate concentration has also been indicated.

It has been suggested that sodium benzoate reduces fouling by reducing the tendency of rust and scale to dislodge from corroded surfaces. Sodium benzoate does not cause foaming or frothing when-used as a corrosion inhibitor in these applications. Sodium benzoate also presents no toxicity problems when used as a corrosion inhibitor, which could be an asset in applications sensitive to odor and toxicity.
The use of sodium benzoate impregnated in paper wrappers has also been used to inhibit the corrosion of tin, steel, chrome plated, and galvanized surfaces even in humid environments. Total contact of the metal surfaces by the wrapping medium is required. In some instances, wrapper protection has been unsuitable and the metal parts have been reported to be inhibited by dipping in solutions of Sodium benzoate. Sodium benzoate has also proved useful in protecting the metal containers for such products as agricultural chemical solutions, household products, waxes, polishes, and aerosol products. Corrosion around labels on tins has been prevented by Sodium benzoate in the adhesive emulsion. Can rusting in neutral to slightly acidic emulsion paints has been prevented by use of sodium benzoate. Sodium benzoate undoubtedly has additional applications as a corrosion inhibitor and has been more extensively evaluated outside the United States where it is more frequently used in that application, especially in automotive engine cooling service.
 
OTHER INDUSTRIAL USES:
Several other industrial uses for sodium benzoate have been discovered and they are quite valuable. Some of these uses include chemical intermediates, catalysts, and as nucleating agents for polyolefin manufacture.
