Colour safe bleach – An ideal disinfectant

Colour safe bleach – An ideal disinfectant

Everybody is familiar with the workings of a regular bleaching agent. Regular chlorine bleach generally lightens and brightens white clothes while removing stains. However, the same bleach cannot be used on coloured clothes. Colour Safe bleach is one such product that is made from a different chemical, which makes it safe to be used on coloured clothes. Instead of washing way the colours from the coloured clothes, it protects the colours and makes them appear vibrant while gently removing the stains.

Since the formulation is different from standard bleach, the colour safe bleach can be used on most fabrics along with regular laundry detergents. Colour safe bleach uses hydrogen peroxide as their active ingredient instead of sodium hypochlorite, which is the active ingredient in standard dyes. While a drop of sodium hypochlorite may discolour your favourite dark blue shirt by leaving a light spot, hydrogen peroxide containing colour bleach does not affect the dyes in many types of fabrics.

If you are new to colour safe bleach and do not know how to use it, always read the label carefully. A patch test of colour clothing is necessary to ascertain that the colour bleach is perfect for your coloured clothes. Test a coloured cloth by pouring a small amount of the colour safe bleach in a small corner of the fabric. Let it sit for 30 minutes or so and then rinse. If the colour stays, you can safely use it on day-to-day basis.

Colour safe bleach is generally a gentle bleach stain remover that removes stains, eliminates odour from the clothing and cleans hygienically. It is safe for both coloured and white clothing for deep cleaning in every wash. T removes all types of stains such as grease, vegetable oils, cosmetics, body soils, food, drinks, dirt etc. This type of bleach makes for a great stain pre-treater.  Before washing each colour cloth with laundry detergent, make a solution of a cup of colour safe bleach with a gallon of water. Soak the stained clothing in the solution and soak for at least 30 minutes or so before regular washing.  This helps remove the stain and refreshes the look of the fabric.

It not only removes stains but also acts as a disinfectant to disinfect toys, pet dishes and baby bottles.  Simply add a teaspoon of bleach to a bucket of water and soak these items to be disinfected. Remove and rinse with enough water. Dry completely. While it does not harm the surfaces, it is strong enough to kill most of the bacteria.

Colour safe bleach acts as a detergent booster too. It helps in boosting colours and eliminates any grease or dirt that detergent might have missed. It brightens both whites and coloured fabrics. Just add a scoop of colour bleach safe along with the laundry detergent to wash the clothes.

Not only for fabrics, colour safe bleach can be used effectively to wash bathroom and basement walls and eliminate mould and fungus. They do not damage the wall or tile colour unlike regular bleach. They help in killing biologic components in the wall and floor without harming the surface.

While colour safe bleach is safe to be handled and use by hands, it is advised to avoid prolonged contact twit the substance. It may cause serious eye and skin irritation when in contact. Rinse with plain water thoroughly for some time and get medical advice if irritation persists. If swallowed by mistake, contact poison centre and seek medical help immediately. Take care not to mix with other bleaching agents as it may react violently.
