MUSCAT CHEMICAL TAG::
- Mercury is the only metal that is a liquid at standard temperature and pressure. The only other liquid element under standard conditions is bromine (a halogen), although the metals rubidium, cesium, and gallium melt at a temperature just above room temperature. Mercury has a very high surface tension, so it forms rounded beads of liquid.
The application of computational chemistry in understanding mercury removal mechanisms will help to modify and design mercury removal materials, thereby improving the efficiency of the removal of mercury in flue gas. Therefore, a review of theoretical studies on the adsorption and oxidation of mercury has been undertaken in the current study.
The lethal dose in humans is approximately 1 g mercuric salt.
