Product Notes

Calculation:

Volume of silver nitrate = no. of drops x drop value of the pipette = V1

Normality of silver nitrate = N1

Volume of water = no. of drops of water x drop value of the pipette = V2

Amount of chloride (mg/L) = V1 x N1 x 35.450 x 1000/V2

Procedure:

. 20 drops of sample water was take in a dry test tube with a calibrated pipette.

. Adjusting the pH of the solution to 7-10 by adding 1 drop of NaOH or H2SO4.

. Adding 2 drops of potassium chromate indicator to the tube.

. With another pipette add silver nitrate solution drop wise, stirring the solution till the colour turns permanent reddish tinge.

. Count the number of drops of silver nitrate solution.
