Sodium Metavanadate (SMV) is a vanadium salt that can be used as a corrosion inhibitor with good inhibition efficiency (98%) at 200 ppm. It can be used in the protection of carbon steel.
Application. Sodium metavanadate has been used as vanadium source in the microbial culture media to study vanadium reduction by mesophilic and thermophilic methanogens. It can be used as a precursor in the preparation of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) coated carbon nanotubes.
Ammonium metavanadate is the inorganic compound with the formula NH₄VO₃. It is a white salt, although samples are often yellow owing to impurities of V₂O₅.
It is an important intermediate in the purification of vanadium.
