Castor oil is a natural remedy derived from the castor bean (Ricinus communis). The main component of castor oil is ricinoleic acid, a type of fatty acid shown to possess anti-inflammatory properties.
Refined oils have less active compounds when compared to unrefined oils, as the further processing damages or denatures these elements. Refined oils are often less expensive, and have a longer shelf life than unrefined oils.
Refined Shea Butter has a longer shelf life and is still a good moisturizer but it lacks the natural skin regenerating benefits of Unrefined Shea Butter.
