Copper(I) chloride (CuCl) has been used in the synthesis of copper nanoring structures. It has also been used as a precursor for the fabrication of ordered array of TiO2 nanoparticles on the conductive nitrogen-doped graphene (NG).

Shows unique character as an initiator of radical reactions such as the hydrostannation of α,β-unsaturated ketones.

Cuprous chloride, CuCl, can be prepared by treating metallic copper and cuprous oxide with hydrochloric acid or by treating metallic copper and cupric chloride with hydrochloric acid.
