How to determine amount of Nitrite

How to determine amount of Nitrite

Nitrite

Sodium nitrite is a good steel corrosion inhibitor which can be used in open recirculating cooling systems. However, due to problems with nitrifying bacteria which oxidize it to nigrate, it is most often applied in closed systems. While nitrites are sometimes regarded as reducing agents, it is  their oxidizing properties that create inhibition by promoting the formation of a passive film on the steel surface.

How to determine amount of Nitrate in boiler water

Nitrate

Nitrate ion is present in natural waters in relatively small quantities. Nitrogenous compounds may be introduced by sewage with subsequent bacteriological oxidation to nitrate. High nitrate concentrations in drinking water appear to cause methemoglobinemia infants (blue babies). Federal regulations has established a nitrate limit in drinking water of 10 ppm as nitrogen. Typically, such high levels are confined to rurally dug wells subject to surface influence.

How to measure turbidity of water

How to measure turbidity of water

Turbidity, which is due to the presence of suspended matter in a finely divided state, can be interpreted as a lack of clearness or brilliance in a water. Turbidity should not be confused with color since a water may have a dark color but still be clear and not turbid. Clay, silt finely divided organic and inorganic matter, and microscopic organisms can all cause turbidity.
